Without a doubt, many of the enquiries that come through my email inbox are to paint wooden kitchens. In addition, the general consensus are that the kitchen is good quality and also, well made, just needs brightening up. There is certainly no need to replace a perfectly good kitchen when especially the option is there to paint it. The cost to replace the one below was costed at £20k for a like for like kitchen with in addition was also the exactly the same layout. The painting on this one cost just over £2k. A huge saving and a fantastic new look to a dark kitchen.

The majority of the work, particularly on this kitchen was carried out in my workshop. This also minimises disruption and above all the kitchen can be used as you would normally use it. My first day on this project was to remove the doors, drawers and secondly any removable components. I then make a decision on which primer to order. This is always done on the first day! In addition, you can clearly identify any problems and to certainly choose the most suitable adhesion primer.

Above all, this part of the project is critical! It should be noted also that the wrong primer will result in poor adhesion and the eventual failing of the final paint film. The image below is an extreme case of poor paint adhesion resulting in a failed paint system.

Unquestionably, the importance of good preparation is key on any project. It was drummed into me at college and during my apprenticeship. Kitchen cabinet painter Great Amwell Hertford Hertfordshire

Preparation is key!

Modern day machinery also aids in the preparation of any project. I use a festool dust extraction unit along with a festool sander. This gives fantastic results in the prep process and removes most of the dust. kitchen cabinet painter hertford

After the preparation process the painting can commence. Every painter has his or hers favourite paintbrush. I use the Corona Archer alongside a superflocked foam roller.. A fantastic flexible brush that holds a good amount of paint and holds it shape really well. The roller allows for an even application of product prior to laying off. Kitchen cabinet painter Great Amwell Hertford Hertfordshire

Colour choice!

This two tone effect is a popular choice. The lighter shade on the wall cabinets and the deeper shade on the base cabinets. This completes the look and gives a fantastic new look to a very good quality kitchen.

The client was thrilled and with little or no disruption to the everyday working life of a busy family. Great colour choices from the Farrow and Ball colour palette.
